Volunteering with us

We have over 100 trained and inducted volunteers who all play a key role in providing our guests with high quality service. We have three key volunteer roles within the project; Hospitality Volunteers, Shift Leaders, and Volunteer Mentors.

iShelter and its individual projects value and invest in volunteers, and we are committed to providing appropriate training and support.

Hospitality Volunteers

Hospitality Volunteers cover all of the key day-to-day tasks involved in Tabor House.

This includes welcoming our guests, preparing food and drinks, organising beds, and cleaning.

There are three shifts:

  • Evenings from 6:00pm – 10:15pm
  • Overnight 10:00pm – 7:15am
  • Mornings from 7:00am – 9:00am
Shift Leaders

The Shift Leader is the volunteer who takes overall responsibility for each shift.

They support their team of Hospitality Volunteers and delegate tasks to ensure the smooth running of Tabor House.

Shift Leaders are responsible for one of the below:

  • Evenings from 6:30pm – 10:15pm
  • Overnight 10:00pm – 7:15am
  • Mornings from 7:00am – 9:00am
Volunteer Mentors

iShelter takes a strength-based approach to mentoring; seeking to build on the skills and passions that guests have.

Each guest that stays at Tabor House is matched with a Volunteer Mentor, who works with their guest on a weekly basis for at least three months to help them to take control of their lives and achieve the goals the guest has set.
