Welcome to Tabor House, run by iShelter
Tabor House is a unique accommodation project, based in Birmingham, that gives people experiencing homelessness a brighter future. Run by iShelter, in partnership with Father Hudson’s Care, we provide 24-hour accommodation to guests referred off the streets.
We work with each guest through our strength-based mentoring programme to help them achieve their goals; supporting them into employment and independent living. We pride ourselves on giving our guests a hand-up, not a hand-out.
Alongside our sister building, Caretaker’s House, we can have up to 11 guests at any one time; providing a safe and secure place to stay, as well as an environment that helps them achieve their goals.
iShelter’s first project, Tabor House, opened in Digbeth in September 2017 with six beds as a pilot scheme. We can now have 11 guests at any one time, at both Tabor House and our sister accommodation.
Tabor House is managed by a small core team on site, as well as a host of trained, dedicated volunteers who work shifts to help us deliver our support. In response to Covid-19, we are now offer 24-hour accommodation.
Our approach is to go beyond offering a warm place to stay; we also have a strength-based mentoring programme to work with individuals, give them every chance to find their feet again, and make plans for the future.
We need your help
Tabor House costs £3,500 per week to run… that’s over £180,000 per year.
We don’t receive any Government funding and rely heavily on public donations and the generosity of local businesses, schools, community groups and individuals. With charitable trusts and other funding scarce, as a result of the pandemic, private donations have never been more important.
